The Imperial Knights of Trekylon are an elite force of Imperial Military soldiers who are deployed in the Corelands and on each of the colony worlds of the empire. Given full training as soldiers, the Imperial Knights operate as additional infantry forces to the Imperial Redtroops.
The Imperial Knights have been formed into something of a fraternal order, with their own banner, their own symbol, and their own equipment. Imperial Knights have their own code of conduct and follow it, as well as Imperial Law to the letter.
The ceremonies for induction into the Imperial Knights of Trekylon are considered a time-honored tradition. Upon the "collection of the brave", they are ordered to line up behind both the Imperial flag and the banner of the IKT. Upon swearing an oath to defend and protect the state, and the monarchy, a 'priest' offers the blessing using the words of Surak and Kahless. This is followed by a blessing from a Christian priest, a Muslim imam, and a Jewish rabbi. Water is sprinkled on the IKT banner, after which each new Knight is obliged to touch the banner as a symbol of their devotion to the Order. This completes the initiation rite and announces to all that new Imperial Knights arisen.
The Imperial Knights came about as a result of a major reorganization within the Imperial Military following the Barlat Assault. With the population having experienced a drop following the major bombardments, the financial base devastated, and the military in disarray, the need arose for a reorganization and redressing of the various military units in the IM. Many outdated units, such as the Stealth Ninjas and Special Ops forces were decommissioned while other units were consolidated into hybrid units. As the recovery progressed, many of those consolidated units were separated again. It was decided by the Council of Ministers that an elite force would be created for the purpose of defense and protection of the empire. It was an Inuyashian, Sir Harold Hagami, who became the first Imperial Knight-Commander, when the Order had only a dozen recruits. Today, the number of Knights have increased to 855,000 scattered in the Corelands and across the major colony-systems.
